Gok Jai Chinese Dumplings

oh-so-very-pretty-gok-jai-cover copy

I am a person who truly appreciates culture. When I’m traveling on vacation, a country’s culture is one of things that really sets a country apart to me. Culture can mean anything from religion and arts, to architecture and the people.

Equally as important to me is the mission of discovering my own roots, where my culture came from and learning from those who are deeply rooted in our family, our elders.  One thing that is very much appreciated and embraced in the Chinese culture is FOOD. One of my most favourite parts in the novel/movie is when Elizabeth truly embraces life in Italy and indulges in “dolce far niente” (the sweetness of doing nothing in Italian). She slips into some lingerie, rolls out a yoga mat, reads the paper and eats a delectable dish … Read more

Mango Float in a Jar

Oh-so-very-pretty-mango-float-16 copy

I know, I know. I’ve made waay to many things in a jar! Started off with the carrot cake in a jar, then I made some lemon coconut cupcakes in a jar. Growing up in the Philippines, we had an abundance of sweet, sweet Philippine mangoes. There’s just nothing that tastes the same! So when my youngest sister Krisha came and brought some mangoes from the Philippines, I just had to make one of our favourite desserts, mango float. It’s made with fresh mangoes, cream and graham crackers. This layered dessert is so easy to make, and so … Read more
