DIY Gold Edge Cards

Oh So Very Pretty DIY Gold Edge Cards-9 copy

At some point, whether it’s for work or for your own business, you’ll need some business cards. There are so many options, and there’s always the evasive gold edge – because it’s expensive and you can’t seem to justify spending the extra coin for it. Good news – you can make DIY gold edge cards! The gold just makes the business cards pop and make them feel a touch more expensive. As some of you know, I’ve finally started my new calligraphy business, Written Word Calligraphy and it’s been keeping me pretty busy. Jukeboxprint was running a promotion on 20 pt cotton cards, I needed business  cards, so I quickly jumped on it. The key thing about edge painting is that the cards have to be thick enough to be printed on… and these seemed like a perfect fit! :) When they arrived…. I totally loved them. But they needed that extra kick. So I decided to paint the edges gold!

Materials:

  • Krylon gold spray paint
  • business cards
  • rubber bands / elastics
  • newspaper
  • old business cards

Step 1: Make yourself a small stack of business cards and wrap around two rubber bands around them. I didn’t do it in this picture, but put an old similar sized business card on top and on the bottom of the stack, so when we spray, we won’t waste our pretty new business cards. If you don’t have any old business cards, just cut some card stock.

Step 2: I prepared my area with some old newspaper and even placed my cards on top of a box.

Step 3: I spray painted the sides without the rubber band very lightly, almost a foot away from the cards to make sure that the cards don’t get soaked. Then, I waited around 20-30 minutes before adjusting the rubber bands the other way, and repeating the process for those edges as well. Again, to wait another 20-30 minutes before touching the cards.

And voila! The result are these gorgeous, gold-edged business cards that cost me less than $10 to do. :) I wish I could give them away in stacks like these because they look so much better when there’s more of them, than less!

Starting a new business is no easy feat! But when you can save a couple bucks here and there on these fun, pretty projects, ask yourself, “Why not?” Now, I’m almost out of them (I ordered only a few cards) and have to get more! :)

Hope you all are doing great!

Clever! By the way, your cursive is gorgeous. I love how it is so fresh and vibrant and free flowing. May the Lord establish the work of your hands (Ps. 90:17)!

[…] During the Just Add Love wedding show¬†a number of people asked if I got my business cards just the way they were, with a gold edge or if I did it myself. Well, as a chronic crafter, I couldn’t help doing it myself and I just want to share how I got around to doing them. As some of you know, I run a DIY/crafting blog with Sheryl on Oh So Very Pretty. Head on over to see how I made my DIY gold edge business cards! […]
