Sheryl and I can’t believe that we have just reached a month here at Oh So Very Pretty! We’re really overwhelmed with all the support YOU have given us and we can’t wait to share how we celebrated our 1 month-sary.Well, brace yourself as this is going to be a long post – and you’ll actually see a lot of tutorials for many elements of our little party. PLUS, there’s going to be a giveaway at the end of this post. Read on!
We started brainstorming for a theme. We knew we wanted to celebrate the arrival of spring, and with the amount of sunshine we’ve been getting recently in Rain-couver, we’re very very blessed. And what welcomes the arrival of spring? Nothing like the oh-so-pretty cherry blossoms.
Vancouver is always blessed with such a pretty spring. With the lack of snow, there is usually greenery all throughout the year. Plus, many streets get lined with blooming cherry blossom trees. In fact, they’re so gorgeous that there are events to appreciate them! Jeremy Lim, a super-talented photographer here in Vancouver shares their beauty through this awesome free wallpaper:
So, while planning our little celebration party, we knew we had to start with the invitation. I took some watercolour and my trusty calligraphy pen and created our one-of-a-kind sakura invites. We agreed that they had to be handwritten because we weren’t going to create so many of them.
Then we decided that we needed some decor. Sheryl came up with these absolutely gorgeous hanging flower cones that she hung on her wall. They’re oh-so-easy to make and they make such a statement! Read her lovely post here on how she made them.
I created these mini tissue pom poms to decorate the table, to mimic the cherry blossoms. I had originally intended to hang them on the wall, but we decided that it would be too much. Check out this tutorial to learn how we made them!
I also made a spray-painted ombre flower vase that I had made for C’s mom! It was harder and messier than I thought. I tried airbrushing a few years ago and I thought it was pretty messy, and I thought I’d learned my lesson but clearly I haven’t! I created the ombre effect using a brush instead of airbrushing. I’ll be posting about how I made it in a few days, so make sure you subscribe to our feed on the sidebar to the right >>> or click here to follow us on Bloglovin’.
And, what’s a celebration without food. We carried the cherry blossom theme all the way to the food and the drinks! We made some delicious pink lemonade and put them in mason jars (and tell me, who is not obsessed with these mason jars?!) Sheryl also made these beautiful hang tags to label the jars.
We also made these super-easy grab and go salmon salad sandwiches, that are healthy and perfect for lunch!
Sheryl attempted to create these sakura mochi balls. She said she wasn’t too happy with them but I thought they were great! Plus, while we try to make everything pretty on our blog – not everything we make is perfect! We learn new things everyday and we definitely learned a lot from making these ones!
Then, since it was a tea party, I infused some earl grey tea (made from my favourite Secret Garden Creamy Earl Grey) into these lovely cupcakes and topped them off with cream cheese icing and pink sprinkles! I’ll be blogging about how I made them as well, so watch out for that.
Sheryl also dip-dyed some marshmallows to complete the picture. You can even heat these up a bit to get them all gooey and yummy!
We sat down, enjoyed these tasty morsels, relaxed while looking at the beautiful view of the mountains Vancouver is known for. God has been sooo good and sooo faithful to us this past month and we’re so grateful for the many blessings He has given us, such as YOU! Thank you so much for supporting our blog and we look forward to seeing you here on our blog! (And don’t forget to tell your girlfriends about us too!)
